Please go to google and search the phrase "starhub sucks" - yes there you go, this post is another addition to all previous rants and complaints about their service. Starhub mainly has three services - mobile, broadband internet and cable tv. I've had all three services but I already terminated my cable tv (service was okay) last year. They also mistakenly charged me with an early termination fee of around S$180 and I had to chase this issue around their billing customer support and wait for 4 months before they finally waived off the amount.
Currently I have a postpaid mobile plan and internet broadband with them. Internet speed is fast as promised 16mbps but can be unstable and slow at times. Disconnections can happen 2-4 times a day with 5-7mins waiting time for the connection to be back. Overall, these things are below my standard but still acceptable. WTF am I supposed to do anyway. I called up their tech support and checked up on my setup for two times already and they said that there were no issues at all. So I guess I will leave it like that.
What really pissed me off is their mobile service. First of all, 3G service is CRAP. Fucking CRAP as hell. Highly unstable. Signal coverage is also fucking lousy. If I go to a central business district area the speeds increase drastically but these speeds are slow compared to blazing speeds of other telcos. In the area of my work, 3G speed is really slow but some of my colleagues are enjoying faster speeds from other telcos and we are in the same fucking area. Good thing my contract is nearing its end with Starhub. I will stick around the internet broadband plan until its finished. My mobile postpaid plan with them is just a few weeks away from the end so I shall wait and gladly terminate it and transfer to Singtel. Cant wait for Galaxy S4 this April 2013.
They also had the guts to send me this promo voucher:
It says that I will get $200 off from any mobile handset package plus additional $50 off if I select the Note 2 or S3 when I recontract. But guess what since I'm a foreigner on SPASS (info), they might need to collect another $200 security deposit from me which is reimbursable after I finish another 2yr contract. I called up their customer support and asked if it was necessary since I'm just recontracting and not a new applicant for their service. She said, yes, I dont need to place a deposit. When I went to the Starhub service center, guess what I need to put a $200 deposit. So it came back to the same fucking thing, they gave me a $200 off via a voucher BUT they were requiring me to pay $200 deposit. This is on top of the whole mobile service issue. End of the line for me. Im transferring to Singtel. They dont require deposits like Starhub and their service is one of the best in Singapore.
Goodluck to all "loyal" Starhub customers out there!
